In its fourth edition, the EtiquetaNews Awards have achieved 579 participants, from 47 university training centers throughout the country.
Ratios that represent a growth of 40% compared to the last edition, in a call that has brought together boys and girls students of university studies and training studies of the 2020-2021 academic year, from 100% of the national territory.
The Contest aims to discover and promote national graphic design talents in order to professionally guide them to the label and packaging industry. Its jury is made up of leading experts from the world of professional design.
The Awards Ceremony Gala was virtual and took place yesterday. It was an event that made us reflect on the time we have been under the pandemic and the great possibilities that open up for the future, especially for graphic designers. Its winner has been Luis Utrillas, a student at the online design school, LABASAD School of Art & Design, for the design of the white wine label “El Pasaje”. A label based on a creative concept that arises from ancient transport and that, doing a simile, pretends to be a “passage” to a special moment.
The logo reflects this double idea by placing the perforations that make the die something that adds value to the design and transmitting modernity through typographic use. A digitally printed wraparound label. A coin seals the capsule and links all the parts of the packaging through the monogram. The reverse has a nostalgic aesthetic that invites us to place the brand on a different timeline.
The second place has been achieved by Calamanda Lozano, from BAU Centro Universitario de Diseño de Barcelona, with the title label “La Pucelle” and José María López, from the Escuela de Arte Almería, with the label under the title “Léxico”, has achieved the third position.
The Prize for the Best Label Design Training Center in Spain went to BAU Centro Universitario de Diseño de Barcelona, as well as the one for Best Professor in Label Design, which went to David Martín. In this way, Bau has achieved three of the six main awards in the Contest and is positioned as the first center in Spain to be the Best Label Design Training Center in Spain in two editions: 2019 and 2021.
Finally, the award for the Center with the Highest Participation in the Contest has gone to the Escuela de Arte Cruz Novillo de Cuenca.
The EtiquetaNews Awards have been sponsored by prominent label manufacturers (Grupo Biolid, Eadec, Germark Gráficas Z), the manufacturer of labeling machinery, Heildelberg, and the media outlet, EtiquetaNews.
